Paul Reeve BEng CEng MIET FinstMC is the Principal Trainer at SILMETRIC ®

Paul has been delivering functional safety training courses for over ten years in the UK, Canada, USA, France, Germany, Norway, Holland, Israel, Russia, Middle East, India and South Korea. (In fact, over 68 courses, to date). Our courses optimise the use of visuals together with worked examples, case studies and practical exercises to ensure each participant is fully engaged and achieving the maximum learning experience.

There is no such thing as ‘one size fits all’ with functional safety so every course is usually tailored for the specific audience (e.g., by preparing examples and case studies that are most relevant) as many of our testimonials indicate.

Customer feedback for our courses is consistently high:

Training with SilmetricOn-site training works particularly well as this allows openness to handle project-related issues in confidence. We specialise particularly in training organisations involved in instrument or system design that need assistance in forming compliant lifecycle processes and performing hardware analysis. The training is structured to cover the theory and principles, followed by practical workshops either based on worked examples, case studies or the client’s own project. The aim is always to ensure the participants learn how to apply the techniques in a relevant context. Training courses are typically 1 to 3 days in duration, and can be extended with mentoring or consultancy as necessary.
SILMETRIC training courses are specifically aimed at developing delegates’ competence so they can:
  • Quantify risk and determine safety integrity targets (SILs) or PLs
  • Apply reliability concepts of failure rates and probabilities
  • Construct reliability models and perform PFD/PFH calculations
  • Determine architectural requirements for a given SIL or PL
  • Specify appropriate test, verification and validation techniques
  • Define a compliant lifecycle and functional safety management procedures

Training with SilmetricTypically, delegates are engineers (electrical, electronic, software, mechanical, control and instrumentation), quality and technical management staff. Training can also be provided for staff involved in the evaluation (e.g., inspection or auditing) of supply chain deliverables.

Each delegate receives a comprehensive manual based on the lecture slides, numerous supplementary hand-outs for the exercises and a certificate of attendance for each individual’s training record.

Whether you are looking for a crisp overview for the directors or an in-depth workshop for design engineers, SILMETRIC has the right course for you

Training is available for:

  • Developers of electronic products with embedded software
  • Developers of mechanical products
  • Systems integrators of safety-instrumented systems for the process industry
  • Developers of safety-related electrical control systems for machinery applications
  • Organisations needing to extend their quality management system (QMS) with functional safety management (FSM) capability
