Product Assessment

SILMETRIC ® has performed independent assessments of numerous devices covering a large range of technologies and complexities for use in various applications up to SIL 3. The standards have stringent requirements concerning independent functional safety assessments that must be carried out on all devices and software used in safety systems.

For product realisation, SILMETRIC can perform an assessment of the hardware reliability, typically based on a failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA). In some (rare) cases there might be sufficient field failure data to perform a statistical failure analysis of the product known as ‘proven in use’. Hardware and software assessments cover the entire realisation lifecycle, including the use of the recommended techniques and measures from the standard to ensure the correct systematic integrity is achieved.

The assessment report details the reliability data, architecture and integrity characteristics of the product which qualifies its use at a SIL (or PL) together with any restrictions in use.
