SILMETRIC ® can perform independent assessments of safety systems intended for applications in the process, energy, machinery and utility industries up to SIL 3. The standards have stringent requirements concerning independent functional safety assessments that must be carried out on safety instrumented systems (SIS or SRECS).
For system integration, the assessment involves an evaluation of the engineered safety functions against the safety requirements specification and the requirements of the relevant standard. This includes the hardware and application software in the system and all the lifecycle documentation. An important aspect in addition to the system design is the integrator’s functional safety management (FSM) procedures.
SILMETRIC is also experienced in assessment of lifecycle documentation prior to realisation (such as SIL determination and the safety requirements specification) and after realisation (such as installation, commissioning and validation).
An important assessment stage involves an evaluation of the operational readiness of the system. This includes an evaluation of the operation and maintenance procedures (including the proof test method) and the end-user’s functional safety management (FSM) procedures.
